Games, changes and fears

When I first started this blog, I did not know that I was going to include personal style in it. Now, that is a very big part of this blog, and I will admit that all outfits that I have shown on this blog, are all outfits that I do actually wear. I dress for myself, but where I am going and what I am doing also put an influence on what I am wearing. I do love heels, but I have a giant dog that I must walk everyday. I also have realized that as much as I adore my crazy pattern mixing and all that jazz, I am sometimes not dressed for the appropriate occasion. I guess in the most simplest terms, what it breaks down to is this: I am an office assistant, I am an English major aka student, I hang out at dive bars and used book stores with my friends, I take care of myself, my dog and kitties, and sometimes even Kyle. What is the point? I guess the point is that I can still wear all of the clothes I own and love, but at the correct time and place.
I think this maybe a very fun challenge for me. I have always steered away from "office attire", those dark pants and button-ups? They always looked cold and impersonal to me. And suits? Ha, I always managed to look like someone who was wearing her Mom's clothes when I tried them on. So for work I typically wear what you guys see on the blog, which in my defense is very conservative, but not always appropriate. I honestly love wearing all of my clothes, but every once in awhile I am annoyed that I am not taken seriously at work. I am one of the youngest people working at the company, and I am an assistant. People tend to listen to managers, not assistants. Le sigh. But how do I dress nice for work, avoiding that cold-corporate look and still have my own personal style influenced? I think this is a challenge but a really good one. I sat and thought of all of the movies and TV shows that I watched and thought of my favorite characters. How were they dressed for work? What were their jobs? It came down to three people. Lorelei and Rory Gilmore, and Summer Finn. All three ladies dressed very well and cute for their workplace (or newspaper in Rory's case) and still looked professional. So, if fictional characters can do it, so can I.
I simply decided to stick to my favorite girly clothes for work, my simple jeans, T's and sweaters for school, and my funky prints for going out after work or weekends. I also was very pleased to discover that I like this blazer! Too bad it is not mine. It is Lauren's blazer and it is so cute! I loved this outfit for work because I got to wear my flower crop-top and new studded flats with this plain grey skirt and jacket. I think I might actually have to break down and buy a blazer soon, because this one was so cute! I mostly liked it buttoned up, but open was cute too and I did like the top un-tucked as well. I do like the pink trim on this skirt, but one of my coworkers said that he thought it was my underwear. Seriously? How does one's underwear reach their belly-button?

So what do you think guys? Does this outfit scream Rory to you? Do you see enough of "me" in it? Are you up for more of me mixing up boring work clothes? This is just a start and I promise to still take outfit photos of street clothes (I still go places after work, sometimes).
