Horehound

Sunday marks the third year I will have been working at my current job. Ever since June of 2009, I have loved my job. I have two amazing bosses, one who is just as curious about modern music as me. Although we have come to agree to adore many classics, we sometimes clash on our tastes in newer bands. I am banned from bringing in any Bright Eyes CD's, and he was scoffed at for presenting a Dashboard Confessional CD to me at one point. We have come along a lot farther since then, however I have run into a slight problem with him: he does not care too much for female singers. No Donnas, no yeah yeah yeahs, no ting-tings or Tori Amos. I made an attempt with Rilo Kiley, but Jenny Lewis on her own has not yet made an appearance, neither, sadly has She & Him. So you can understand my shock when my boss came in one morning and popped in a CD with a female lead singer. "The girl is the lead singer...and I like it a lot." he told me. My jaw hit my desk at that point. Who could this amazing band be? Then the music that crept into my ears told my brain-ah yes, of course. The Dead Weather

Now if you are a fan of The Kills, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Queens of the Stone age or Discount you maybe interested in the Dead Weather. Or you already have a copy of their album "horehound" and you are asking the blog post in front of your face to tell you something that you didn't already know-for that I apologize, however, for those who don't know who this amazingly, chucked full of awesomeness of a band is-I will be telling you.....now.

Composed of: Alison Mosshart, Jack White, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence. The Dead Weather is an American alternative rock super group. They released their debut album "horehound" in July of 2009 and are currently recording a second album called "Blue Blood Blues" which will have a more Blues sound to it. "Horehound" has a mishmash of eclectic sounds and lyrics. The lead vocals are sung by Alison Mosshart, but swap out to Jack White in many of the songs. The band released three singles off this album which include:
  • "Hang you from the heavens"
  • "Treat me like your mother"
  • "I cut like a buffalo"

My personal favorite? "60 feet tall". It is the first track on the album and captures my attention from the beginning rattle.
